WEEK 15 Recap
New York(A) 27 @ Cleveland 31
The New York Jets almost made a heroic comeback, but fell short, as time
ran out giving the Cleveland Browns a 4 point decision at Municipal
Stadium. Trailing by 21 points in the 3rd quarter, QB Richard Todd
brought the Jets to within a TD pass of a win before the clock
expired. New York had 4 chances from the Cleveland 9 yard line to
try and snatch victory but were unable to get it done. Backup QB
Todd threw for 395 yards, 2 TDs and 3 INTs; completing 9 of those to WR
Wesley Walker (184 yards 2TDs). The return of RB Gregg Pruitt from
injury was big for the Brownies as he ripped off 76 yards with 1 TD.
QB Brian Sipe earned game MVP honors completing 19 of his 21 attempts for
205 yards and 2 TDs.
Kansas City 3 @ Denver 27
The Broncos secured a playoff spot and the inside track to the AFC Western
Divisional Crown by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in the mile high City 27 -
3. Bronco QB and game MVP Craig Morton completed 16 of 20 passes for 198 yards
and 3TDs, while Denver's Multi-Back Offense rushed for 142 yards on 35 carries.
The win sets the stage for the big showdown next week between the Broncos and
the Steelers. The AFC's number 1 and number 2 ranked Defenses will slug it out
in Denver to see which team will gain home field advantage throughout the
playoffs. While for Kansas City next week their season will end playing the
Seahawks in Seattle.
Oakland 28 @ Miami 13
The Raiders brought the old swagger into South Florida and moved one step
closer towards a possible playoff berth, with their 28-13 win over the
Dolphins. Mark vanEeghan provided the spark for Oakland's offense, collecting
105 yards on the ground and scoring two touchdowns. Ken Stabler led the aerial
attack with 13 completions for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Miami scored on
the opening drive of the game, but could only manage 2 field goals in the
remaining 3-1/2 quarters. Next week, Oakland squares off with Minnesota with
the AFC West division title or a possible wild card berth on the line.
Meanwhile, Miami will host New England in a game that will decide the AFC East
division title.
