Al and his wife, Judy, have been married for fifteen years. They have four children, Ty (11), Ally (9), Will (5) and Luke (3). His oldest child was indeed named for the great tiger Ty Cobb. He denies that Will was named for Willie Hernandez...or Wee Willie Keeler... Both Al and Judy graduated from Michigan State University, and remain avid fans to this day. They drive the 200 miles each way to catch Spartan football games with the season tickets they've held for many years. Al is a partner in a five attorney firm in Charlevoix, and specializes primarily in trial work. As a good Michigan resident, Al is a Tiger fan, and attended game six of the 1984 World Series, which had the first of Kirk Gibson's memorable World Series homers. He was at the last game ever at Tiger Stadium, watched the Tigers lose to Minnesota in the 1987 playoffs and helped boo Juan Gonzalez out of town in 2000. It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that Gibson and Alan Trammell are his favorite players, with Ernie Harwell his favorite announcer. Al's favorite football team used to be the Lions back when Detroit had a professional team. In addition to playing in the OTFBA, Al's played in the Brassball & RUMBA (15 years) baseball leagues. He also plays in the TAFL (Action FB) and GBA (basketball) leagues. As proof that sports aren't all that matter, he's President of his local School Board, coaches Little League and is very active in his church. He even finds time to write for the sports section of his community newspaper. Of course, that's when he's not boating or playing golf. |
