Soviet
BA-10
Armored Car
The
BA-10 was an armored car developed by the Soviet Union in the 1930s. It
was based on the GAZ-M1 car and was designed for reconnaissance and
infantry support roles. The BA-10 was armed with a 45 mm cannon and a
coaxial machine gun, and was protected by 15-20 mm thick armor. It had a
top speed of 53 miles per hour and was powered by a 50 horsepower engine.
The BA-10 saw action in the Winter War against Finland, as well as in
World War II on the Eastern Front, where it was used in a variety of roles
including reconnaissance, convoy escort, and close support for infantry.
Although the BA-10 was eventually phased out in favor of newer armored
cars and tanks, it remained in service with Soviet and other nations’
forces for many years after the end of World War II.
