The
Germans directly increased the thickness of the hull plates on the F
version, thus eliminating the need for additional armor plating. The
resulting thickness,
however, was less, at 50 mm at the front and 30 mm on the sides. To better
withstand the stresses caused by the increased weight, the running gear
was also
improved.
The
main difference between the F and F2 versions is the main armament. The
old gun is replaced by a gun of the same caliber, but with a longer
barrel,
the 7.5-cm KwK 40 L/43, which thus fires higher-velocity projectiles more
accurately.
